Formerly the CBS Building and also known as Black Rock (thanks to its dark gray exterior), 51W52 was designed by iconic designer and architect Eero Saarinen in 1960. It was his sole skyscraper and New York’s first concrete tower, and is today a designated landmark. The 38-story building’s distinctive façade features massive angled granite piers alternating with dark-tinted glass, creating the appearance of a continuous slab.
The owner, Harbor Group International, hired Royal to perform extensive repairs to the granite façade, roof, and decorative stones. We also reinforced the façade panels throughout the building in conjunction with the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission.
