With its sweeping, sloped facade rising above 57th Street, 9 West 57th Street is one of Manhattan's most distinctive office towers. Designed by Gordon Bunshaft of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and owned by the Soloviev Group, the building is clad in travertine that gives it its signature look. Royal restored the facade, replacing the travertine coping with stone sourced from Italy, patching travertine throughout, and completing masonry repairs, sealant replacement and mortar repointing. To reach the building's curved face, the team designed a custom-engineered suspended scaffold system, and used the building's maintenance unit to inspect the exterior steel cross bracing and replace fasteners.
